SOUND RELIEF TALLY
TIPS OVER $9 MILLION

WITH ADDITION OF LIVE DVD SALES

One year on from the phenomenal award winning Sound Relief concerts an additional sum of $1,046,496.24 has been raised through sales of the deluxe 4 DVD set recording of the concerts, with more to come!

This additional sum takes the grand total of funds generated by Sound Relief from the twin concert events and DVD sales to an impressive $9,080,672.24,

The initial sum raised by the concerts went straight to the Bushfire Appeal for distribution by the Victorian Government to people and communities affected.

The $1 million plus sum raised from the DVD sales will go directly to Red Cross to develop programs and resources to better prepare communities for disasters such as bushfires and floods.

Michael Gudinski’s Liberation Music released the 4 DVD set on October 9, 2009.

“I’m delighted that the one year anniversary of the Sound Relief concerts has coincided with the DVD set raising more than $1 million.  It’s a fantastic addition to the money already raised,” Michael Gudinski said.

“As with the concerts themselves, the release of the DVD set was due to the generosity and support of the music industry on all levels – the artists and their management, their labels and publishers, retail, media, suppliers and so many others.  Their cooperation and commitment has ensured as much money as possible was raised.  It is truly impressive to see everyone unite once again to produce such a significant result for such a worthy cause.”

The CEO of Red Cross, Robert Tickner, welcomed the donation.

“This money is very much needed.  It will support our crucial everyday work preparing Australian communities for future disasters, whether they be floods, cyclones or bushfires.”

In recognition of the devastating disasters from which Sound Relief was born and to commemorate the anniversary of the Sound Relief concerts and all that they stood for – a day of music, entertainment, reflection, celebration and surprises – two of the live audio recordings from Sound Relief will be made available to air on radio for one weekend only.

The two tracks have been exclusively cleared for Thursday 11 March 11:00am AEDT to Sunday 14 March 11:59PM AEDT ONLY and are the Hunters & Collectors’ “Holly Grail” and Bliss N Eso’s “The Sea Is Rising” – unquestionably both stand out performances at Sound Relief.

SOUND RELIEF RAISES MORE
THAN $8 MILLION FOR CHARITY

The overwhelmingly successful Sound Relief concerts in Melbourne and Sydney on Saturday March 14, 2009 were a day of music, entertainment, reflection, celebration, surprises, and inclement weather that will indisputably live long in the memories of those that attended.

The most significant outcome of Sound Relief comes just over a month post the concerts though - namely confirmation of the sum raised for the charities supported by the event.

It was announced today at a press conference at the MCG in Melbourne that an impressive $8 million plus was raised across the two events with $7,159,760 being donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and $874,416 being donated to the The Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.

In the month following the Sound Relief concerts external accounting firms BSA Partnership and moneypenny conducted a comprehensive audit of the two events and compiled detailed Profit and Loss reports which are now available for the public to view. These reports detail all costs incurred in staging the Sound Relief concerts. Download pdfs below or see them onlne Sydney funds raised » | Melbourne funds raised »

The organisers of Sound Relief said; “We are thrilled with the amount of money raised by Sound Relief. It is no small exercise to stage two stadium concerts of such magnitude and the willingness of so many to provide their talent, time, labour and equipment free or at cost has allowed such a significant sum to be raised for the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and The Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.

“We are proud to have been part of Sound Relief and hope the funds raised will help to heal the communities that have been impacted on by these devastating disasters.”
